Phase 01

Brand Strategy

Problem

Over their years of serving Los Angeles, Reality’s vision expanded, leadership changed, and their approach matured. With all the demands of a growing and evolving demographic, a new building, and a small staff, years went by with the church not having the adequate tools and framework to communicate its refreshed vision.

SOLUTION

We provided a set of brand workshops to help us identify areas of brand fragmentation and outdated messaging or positioning. Our discovery phase led us to planning a new, all-encompassing brand identity system, brand architecture, and website that could communicate Reality’s new vision and approach to its evolved demographic.

Phase 02

Brand Building

The team at Reality LA understood that branding is a useful tool, while wanting to avoid the consumerist aspect to it, too. As an organization, Reality LA considers itself “anti-brand”. They wanted to use their “brand equity” to tell people about Jesus instead of telling people about Reality LA.

So when it came to their visual identity system, their brand needed to play in the background,  while their tagline “Jesus Changes Everything” played in the foreground.

Phase 03

Brand Experiences

Web

The rest of our efforts were focused on providing art direction and overseeing the creation of Reality LA’s online experience. Our task was to make sure the new visual language translated well into digital. The wonderful folks at Fisherman Labs did a fantastic job at developing a website that feels like a natural extension to the preliminary work we did.

Sunday Experience

Next, we focused on creating design templates for signage, stationery, and screen presentations that carried over from the screen to the street, all utilized every Sunday gathering.

Kids Program

We then built on this vision for Reality LA Kids. We created a unique identity for the weekly program that invites kids to explore faith, play games and help support their local community.

The Results

“Odd Notion immediately impressed us with their expertise. They made the process easy and enjoyable—explaining their approach and providing guidance through every step of the process. As an organization that has a lot of stakeholders, they were able to navigate our various values and unify them into a cohesive direction and purpose, providing an end product we were proud to have represent us and clearly communicate our identity. Their abilities to foresee real-life usage of the brand, develop creative approaches, and push artistic boundaries are invaluable!”
